Lease Automated Custody Transfer (LACT) Unit

Modular, Engineered-to-Order, Shipped Ready to Plug In

lease automatic custody transfer LACT unit skid

Integrated Flow Solutions Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) units are designed for accurate measurement and sampling of various hydrocarbon liquids ranging in viscosity from 2 to 5000 centistokes. Each LACT unit in oil and gas applications ensures precise custody transfer measurement prior to pipeline or truck loading.

The complete LACT skid includes inlet basket strainers, air eliminators, LACT meters (Coriolis, turbine, or positive displacement), back pressure control valve, suction/discharge piping, valves, instrumentation, and controls. Each lease automatic custody transfer unit is modular and designed to minimize field assembly and simplify LACT unit installation.

What is a LACT Unit in Oil and Gas?

A Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) unit is a metering skid used to automatically measure, sample, and transfer ownership of crude oil from a production lease to a pipeline or transport truck. LACT units for pipeline applications ensure accurate volume measurement, BS&W verification, and compliance with API custody transfer standards. Typical components of a LACT include a charge pump, air eliminator, LACT meter, sampler, control panel, and back pressure valve.

Multi-Well LACT Unit Operation

In a typical multi-well LACT unit, oil flows from the storage tank to the charge pump and passes through a BS&W monitor to measure sediment and water content. The fluid then moves to an air eliminator located at the high point of the system to remove entrained gases.

The oil continues through a static mixer to ensure a representative sample is drawn into the sample container. Based on the measured BS&W percentage, a divert valve directs acceptable oil through the LACT meter while off-spec oil is routed to a designated holding tank.

Acceptable oil passes through a Coriolis, turbine, or positive displacement LACT meter with custody transfer accuracy to meet API standards before being transferred to trucks, storage tanks, or pipeline systems.

Centralized Multi-Well LACT Design

Multi-well LACT units can be configured to accommodate multiple well streams on a single skid. Using an integrated PLC flow computer, tank levels can be monitored and automatically switched while maintaining secure and accurate lease production data.

A centralized LACT skid design reduces site footprint, lowers capital expenditure per well, and simplifies operations compared to installing separate units for each well.

Integrated Flow Solutions provides complete LACT unit fabrication, installation, and service support for oil and gas measurement applications.
